The National Park Service plays a vital role in preserving the natural beauty, history, and cultural significance of America’s national parks, including the treasured landscapes surrounding Townsend and the Great Smoky Mountains. Since 1916, the National Park Service has been entrusted with protecting these special places so they may be enjoyed, learned from, and appreciated by future generations.

Beyond park boundaries, the National Park Service works closely with local communities, tribes, nonprofit organizations, and partners to support conservation efforts, preserve local history, and create meaningful outdoor opportunities for families, residents, and visitors alike.
