About Tuckaleechee Caverns

Tuckaleechee Caverns is one of Townsend’s most remarkable natural attractions, known as the “Greatest Site Under the Smokies.” Located beneath one of the oldest mountain chains in the world, the caverns are estimated to be between twenty and thirty million years old and feature an extraordinary collection of geological formations shaped over time.

Visitors experience a guided underground adventure along a 1.25-mile round-trip tour that showcases massive chambers, intricate formations, and dramatic natural features. Highlights include the expansive “Big Room,” large enough to rival a football stadium, and “Silver Falls,” a 210-foot subterranean waterfall—the tallest of its kind in the eastern United States.
